Overview
Your Voice, Your Choice set out to raise awareness about Advance Care Planning and spark conversations about End of Life Care. The campaign launched during Palliative Care Week in May 2021. The project involved storytellers sharing their personal experiences, knowledge, and perspectives on Advance Care Planning. The collaborative effort was part of the Greater Choices for at Home Palliative Care measure (GCfAHPC), led by Eastern Melbourne PHN, in partnership with other PHNs, including Adelaide PHN, Country WA PHN, Central Queensland Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast PHN, and Brisbane South PHN, working closely with Advance Care Planning Australia.
The Challenge
Advance Care Planning is a critical but often overlooked aspect of healthcare. The challenge was to bring attention to this vital topic and encourage individuals to consider and discuss their preferences for End of Life Care. This initiative also aimed to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding Advance Care Planning while navigating the sensitive nature of the subject.
The Solution
Your Voice, Your Choice used Cinefly to create a series of short videos. These videos featured storytellers who shared their personal narratives and insights on Advance Care Planning. Using their smartphones, storytellers were able to contribute their perspectives with ease. Cinefly's platform simplifies the video creation process — just point, shoot, and watch as it handles post-production and editing — resulting in compelling and impactful content. The collaborative synergy with multiple PHNs and Advance Care Planning Australia amplified the project's reach and resource pool, enhancing its overall effectiveness.
The Result
The project yielded significant engagement and awareness. The videos generated substantial attention on social media, with the first video story alone reaching over 2,000 people. The success of this initiative underscored the importance of digital storytelling to address crucial healthcare topics and initiate conversations within the community.
Furthermore, the project concluded with the creation of a comprehensive supercut video that served as a valuable tool for advocating for Advance Care Planning in the community. The positive feedback emphasised the project's impact and success in raising awareness and encouraging dialogue on this essential subject.
